Dear Philip,

For IR spectrophotometers you can get high RI windows, e.g. CsI has RI
1.74, diamond - 2.4.  The windows are pretty small and these RI's are for
wavelength of 10 microns - in the IR range.  There are quite a few minerals
with RI in this range too, like corundum - Al2O3 - RI 1.76, a company that
sells total internal reflection microscopes should supply this sort of
thing.
