Draq5 with excitation of 633nm. It works well in living or fixed cells. We
use 1/2-1/3 of recommended concentration. 

For living cell, some signs of toxicity can be seen soon after dye
application. Reduce the concentration and wash out the dye after seem help. 

Alternatively, you can use one of the many Syto dyes Molecular probes make.

Hello listers,

We have a Zeiss LSM 510 system without a UV laser or two-photon laser.  I
would like to learn your suggestions on which DNA dye excited by visible
laser (Argon or HeNe) is the best substitute of DAPI.

I'm not sure I can follow this argument.  I certainly
cannot divide (nor indeed reproduce any other way since
I've had a vasectomy) and at 61 I'd say I'm pretty
much fully differentiated.  But I've heard nobody
suggest that I'm not alive.
