Hi, 

Is Fiji a good tool to analyse (to generate renderized animated sequences,
for instance..) 4D images (z sections through time) ? 

Any idea how it compares to commercial packages (Bitmap, Volocity) ?

The Fiji distribution of ImageJ
http://fiji.sc					Fiji -  is just ImageJ
(Batteries Included)

has all the tools you need for that. 

read the docs and wikis to get started.
