Hi all,

does anybody know of alcohol- (and resin-) resistant
fluorescent beads? As far as I found out, the beads
supplied by Molecular Probes aren´t. We really
wouldn´t like to forego dehydration in our
FA-fixed preparations.

We want to use large beads as a (rough) intensity
standard for fluorescence within Cy3/Cy5-stained
insect brain tissue parts (wholemounts) to attribute
individual staining differences and (hopefully)
quantify effects between controls and test animals.
Although this gives rise to several problems (Z-drop,
just to name one) we think a rough comparison should
be achievable, if bead fluorescence doesn´t vary
too much...

Any other ideas about comparing intensities of
different preparations are appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Wolf Hütteroth
(PhD student)
