This is the Duluth Birding Report for February 11th, 2016 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

An immature BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was relocated by Bruce Munson and Tom
Malone on the 10th at Canal Park in Duluth. Small numbers of ICELAND
GULLS, THAYER'S GULLS, and GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL are also being seen
in the area.

John Richardson saw a juvenile gray morph GYRFALCON on the 6th near the
grain elevators in the Duluth Port Terminal, and it was seen again as
recently as the 11th. The dark gray/intermediate morph juvenile
GYRFALCON near the Peavey elevator and Connor's Point off US Highway 53
in Superior was also reported as recently as the 10th.

The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at 44th Avenue East and Regent Street in the
Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth was reported as recently as the 11th.
Birders are welcome to look for the bird but the homeowner asks
observers to stay on the sidewalk and not venture into his yard. A
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW has also been seen in the same neighborhood.

A flock of 260 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen on the 7th on the West Knife
River Road near the App Road in Duluth Township. A flock of 35 was seen
on the 11th along MN Highway 61 just east of the McQuade Road. Gordy
Martinson saw a flock of 25 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS on the 8th along the
Maxwell Road in Lakewood Township. Rubin Stenseng saw a flock of 20 on
the 6th at Hartley Nature Center along Woodland Avenue in Duluth and
Cindy Edwardson saw 50 on the same day along East Arrowhead Road in the
Woodland neighborhood. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS continue to be reported from
Ely as recently as the 7th.

SPRUCE GROUSE were seen along Lake County Road 2 on the 6th near the
Sand River and on the 7th just south of Greenwood Lake. The male
LONG-TAILED DUCK at Agate Bay in Two Harbors was last reported on the
7th.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, February
18th.
