This is the Duluth Birding Report for November 8th, 2012 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The CASSIN'S KINGBIRD in Grand Marais was still present as of the 8th
near the courthouse at the corner of 3rd Avenue West and 2nd Street. A
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER continues to be seen in the same area and a
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen as recently as the 5th. Peder Svingen and
Anthony Hertzel found a late WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER on the 3rd near
Croftville east of Grand Marais. Doug Kieser and others saw a TOWNSEND’S
SOLITAIRE at 1465 Croftville Road.

A HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen on the 3rd at Artist's Point in Grand Marais
and another was seen on the 5th at Paradise Beach. Denny and Barb Martin
counted 295 LONG-TAILED DUCKS along MN Highway 61 on the 5th between
Grand Marais and Naniboujou Lodge. They saw three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS,
two BLACK SCOTERS, and two LONG-TAILED DUCKS on the 6th at Burlington
Bay in Two Harbors. The MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD at Agate Bay in Two Harbors
east of the Edna G. tugboat was seen as recently as the 7th.

A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was found in Duluth on the 3rd on the 700 block
of East 8th Street, and it was seen as recently as the 5th. Two GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were still present at Bayfront Park in Duluth as of
the 6th. Jan and Larry Kraemer saw a RUDDY DUCK and three WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS on the 7th at the Park Point Recreational Area near the boat
launch. They found a PACIFIC LOON on Lake Superior out from the Sky
Harbor Airport, and six LONG-TAILED DUCKS at the McQuade Road boat
launch east of Duluth..

Andy Nyhus and others saw a SPRUCE GROUSE at the Iona's Beach SNA, three
miles east of Gooseberry Falls on MN Highway 61 at mile marker 42. A
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was seen on the 7th on the 300 block of 2nd
Avenue in Two Harbors.
