We are closing in on the last of the migration, and leaves are falling
fast with the winds of the past few sunny days. Most obvious migrants
this week are the sparrows, and many robins are coming through.
On September 19, Beth Siverhus reported flocks of LAPLAND LONGSPURS
along the road to the Northwest Angle of Lake of the Woods. GRAY JAYS
were also seen there.
In Warroad , Roseau County, Beth observed AMERICAN REDSTARTS, and
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS on September 28.
Here in Pennington County, on September 26, I saw two late COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS bug catching in the early evening while on my way home from
work. On September 28, DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and many AMERICAN ROBINS
arrived in the yard. WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, HARRIS'S SPARROWS, and
PURPLE FINCHES joined them on September 29. The finches have been here
off and on for awhile.
Sandy Aubol in East Grand Forks, Polk County, on September 25, saw
RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET,
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, MAGNOLIA
WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, FOX SPARROW,
LINCOLN'S SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, HARRIS'S SPARROW, and
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW in her yard. Donna and Leon Thoreson reported
OVENBIRD near Climax on September 23.
Brad and Dee Ehlers in Otter Tail County saw some SANDHILL CRANES, 35
MOURNING DOVES, an immature RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD,and an EASTERN
TOWHEE on September 24, and on September 27 , a loose flock of 43 BLUE
JAYS heading south.
