Hello, All---

My Department is interested in having a seminar/workshop here to educate
our faculty on the many imaging applications available. Most folks don't
have the time availability to get to the many fine workshops out there, so
we'd like to know who takes their show on the road?

We are looking to host a 1-2 day workshop/seminar on various techniques
during our semester break in February (Feb. 23 - Mar. 4th, 2001). We have
a BioRad 600, with an upright Nikon microscope, and several other standard
fluorescence microscopes in the dept. Currently there is no live-cell work
being done, but some would like to start. We are considering expanding
our facility to a broader spectrum imaging center. We want to educate the
infrequent faculty users, as well as the graduate students and some
research assistants in some of the many applications, as well as their
limitations in certain areas.

Some of the topics which have been
suggested are : Confocal vs. deconvolution applications; multi-photon
imaging, 3-D reconstruction techniques and limitations, digital image
processing, live cell imaging, ratiometric imaging, use of GFP and other
probes for in situ cell and tissue molecular biology. Obviously this is a
"tall order" for a short workshop, but we will pick and choose, depending
on our mutual interests.

We expect to have 10-15 participants, most of whom have NO direct
experience on the instrumentation.....we would welcome demos of equipment,
but we also want to get some "didactic" information that can help folks
in their research planning as well as in providing a basis for their peer
reviewing when it involves such techniques.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Reply to me at

environment, projected costs, etc....
