Nikon also sells the DXM1200 for about $7000 including acquisition software.
It is better than the coolpix for brightfield and also is easier to use. We
had problems using a coolpix camera with our Nikon E800, but the DXM1200
works really well. Neither of them are the best for fluorescence, but I am
sure that the DXM performs better than the coolpix for that application as
well.
You should also consider the Roper Coolsnap CF color which sells for about
$5000, but it does not include the software, there is also the basic color
Coolsnap model that costs $3500 but is much slower than the CF version.

Subject: Inexpensive Digital Cameras
Hi I just wanted to get some feed back from folks out
there... What are your recommendations on purchasing a
decent digital camera ( place on my Zeiss Microscope),
that I can plug directly into my PC (video card) , and
generate good bright field (as well as fluorescent
images ) and is there one out there that's around
5,000 dollars? I've thought about the Nikon CoolPix ,
any other suggestions?
