Dear Fellow Confocalists,
An interesting article about formaldehyde fixation appeared recently in
Microscopy Today:

Bryan R. Hewlett, "Penetration Rates of Formaldehyde", Microscopy Today,
Vol 10 (6), 30, Nov/Dec, 2002.

This one page article talks about the reversibility of formaldehyde
fixation (and antigen retrieval) as well as mentioning the more serious
problem of short (<24 hr) fixation. I found it very thought provoking and
certainly worth reading.
Regards
Paul Rigby
