Well, I had Volocity in my lab for a month (on a demonstration
Perkin-Elmer confocal) so if Volocity won't give a demo ask
your local Perkin-Elmer rep for one!
Do be careful with Imaris that you are getting the modules
you need. A colleague of mine had a nasty experience that
way - a vital module was left out of his quote - he raised
the funding (and it was quite a large sum) and bought the
software only to find that it wouldn't do what it was supposed
to do. Imaris were pretty unhelpful about it - just told him
he needed to find another $x,000 if he wanted to be able to
use his software - and he had no way to find that money.
I'm sure it was an honest mistake or misunderstanding but
such things can easily happen with software that's so totally
modular and their attitude after it happened wasn't the best.
There are other options apart from Volocity and Imaris -
Voxblast from Vaytek and Auto-visualise from Autoquant are
other examples that come to mind. Both these companies are
willing, in my experience, to allow demos for up to a month.
