Sorry to occupy the airwaves so extensively today, but to complete the
story, our confocal service problem seems to have been resolved. Bio-Rad
service from Hercules, CA called to say that now that a formal
announcement has been made about the acquisition, business can proceed.
Neither BioRad nor Zeiss want to upset customers and want to make the
transition seemless. Therefore, as a gesture of good will, Biorad is
sending their regular service person to our facility for this problem
and in the future, Zeiss will honour existing service contracts.

Thank you for these phone numbers. I called Zeiss service and spoke
to
a very pleasant person, Cynthia, who was aware of the change in status
of BioRad customers. She wrote down all the service contract details,
will verify the information and arrange for field support, even to
Canada.

Of course, I am not sure how long the wait will be, but at least there
is a semblance of the existence of a plan of action. I will
communicate
further details as they happen.

Subject: [Bio-Rad] confocal service

The argon 488 laser on our BioRad Radiance died yesterday and I called
the service department - the reply was that as of yesterday, Zeiss had
acquired their confocal division and Bio-Rad is no longer servicing
the
confocal microscope. Talk about poor timing!

Has anyone heard similar stories? Any difference in response policy
between Canada and the US?
Thanks
Judy
