Dear Simon,
Sigma sells PKH fluorescent cell linker dyes. They have been used in
a wide variety of applications (s. bibliography on web page).
A labeling protocol is posted there as well. The dye is actually
produced by Phanos Technologies.
The advantage of this dye is the low toxicity and long lifetime.
