Digital Microscopy Technician Opening at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Molecular Cytology Core Facility

The Molecular Cytology Core Facility (MCCF) at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York seeks a Digital Microscopy Technician.  The MCCF is equipped with state of the art imaging systems including Leica and Zeiss point-scanning confocal microscopes, an Ultraview spinning disk and a Zeiss line-scanning confocal, and several widefield fluorescence microscopes including one designated for spectral imaging.  A number of widefield and confocal systems are equipped with live imaging capacity. MCCF uses Volocity, AxioVision, Metamorph, Amira, Imaris, AutoDeblur and other software.

Responsibilities:

*         Train and assist users with imaging equipment.

*         Assist in post-acquisition processing and analysis of the data, writing scripts and macros in order to automate image acquisition and image processing and analysis.

*         Maintain, calibrate, and monitor the performance of imaging systems.

*         Evaluate the newest hardware and software technological advances and equipment.

*         Communicate with vendors to set up demos of new equipment or service appointments.

*         Conduct individual and collaborative research projects.


Qualifications and Skills:

*         Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Biology or a related field and a strong background in computing are required, also familiarity with scientific imaging and image processing concepts.

*         Experience in research involving advanced fluorescent microscopy and confocal microscopy is preferred.

*         Experience in systems administration in mixed operating system environments (Windows and Mac ).

*         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with users, vendors, engineers, and staff.

*         Ability to work in a team environment.

*         Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task are required as well.
