only three such advanced facilities in the USA.

The NIC is a core imaging facility, housing the latest in imaging
instruments including super-resolution, confocal, TIRF and
multiphoton microscopes. The center is supported by the Feinberg
School of Medicine, the Department of Cell & Molecular Biology,
the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Nikon
Instruments, Inc.

The mission of the NIC is to provide access to state-of-the-art
imaging equipment to researchers at Northwestern University and
neighboring institutions and to serve as an educational hub for
the mid-west region by providing training courses and symposia
in basic and advanced microscopy. The Manager will be responsible
for the upkeep of current instrumentation and for providing
training and support to users. The Manager will also be expected
to develop and teach courses in basic and advanced light microscopy
techniques and their applications to cutting edge biomedical
research. In addition the Manager will organize symposia on the
latest microscopy techniques and their applications. He/she will
also establish and maintain close communications with Nikon
Instruments and other NIC directors worldwide to operate the
Center at the highest level of excellence. Other activities include
the evaluation and provision of feedback on new/prototype Nikon
equipment to Nikon Instruments and generating monthly status
reports. The Manager will be expected to write grants to help the
institute with equipment purchases and to stay knowledgeable
regarding the latest developments in imaging technologies and
applications.

Applicants must have at least a PhD degree in a relevant discipline.
Candidates should have extensive personal experience optimizing and
using cutting-edge imaging modalities in biomedical research.
Preference will be given to candidates with graduate and postdoctoral
experience in microscopy, image analysis and/or designing optical
systems. Experience with grant writing, teaching and using Nikon
