Bonsoir, Sylvie,

this is not a trivial issue.

Besides the natural and common sense reasoning (yours), there is a legal
issue, at least at places like the Karolinska, Stockholms Universitet,
Universitetet i Oslo (where I am) and so on:

As far as I know, in all Scandinavian countries state institutions are
automatically self insurance units. Legally this means that you are not
even allowed to purchase any so ever form of insurance. At least in
Norway, this means that we are not allowed, formally speaking, to buy any
warranty extensions or the like. The original warranty periods - two years
at minimum we have to demand (as demanded from us by Norwegian law) -
hence cannot be extended by buying extensions, since any
extension would, legally speaking, be interpretable as the purchase of an
insurance and this is not allowed.

I would therefore recommend you to FIRST speak to a person formally
educated in law and employed at the Karolinska and entitled to provide
competent answers related to this problem BEFORE trying to purchase
anything of the type you mention in your mail.

Best wishes,
Johannes (no persons educated in legal matters in the family as far as I
can genealogically trace back, which, however, is not very long)
