But that, for example, would not work here in Leicester as our accounts are now zeroed at the end of every financial year, meaning that we cannot build up a surplus to cover future costs.  So have a talk with your financial people as well.

You can't buy extended warranties?  Yikes!  In that case I would recommend budgeting for the replacement of an entire system every 2 years (or when the default warranty expires.) @:-)
