The manufacturer of the freezing unit is described in the papers above. 
Would work for 1-photon fluorescence as well.

When cold enough, I believe the shape of the fluorescence spectra become 
much more structured, which could have advantages for multiplexing. See 
Giske dissertation for more on cold photophysics.
