Research Associate/Postdoctoral Researcher
The Department of Biology at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) is
seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher (Research Associate 0148) to
work in the laboratory of Dr. Alex Paredez. The project will focus on
G-protein signaling in the protozoan parasite Giardia lamblia. The long term
goal of this NIH-funded project is to define the role of Giardia's sole Rho
GTPase in the regulation of the cytoskeleton and membrane trafficking. As
the Giardia genome only contains a single Rho GTPase and a handful of
upstream modulators, the system is highly tractable and its study may
uncover fundamental biology and novel therapeutic strategies. See our lab
website for more information http://paredezlab.biology.washington.edu.
Review of applications will begin February 15, 2015, and continue until the
position is filled. The position is available immediately; however, the
start date is negotiable.
Responsibilities:
• Formulate testable hypotheses relevant to the intellectual mission of the
lab

• Perform experiments and maintain detailed records of results

• Interpret, prepare and present results

• Maintain expertise by reading research papers, attending journal club,
and attending relevant seminars and conferences

• Prepare written manuscripts for publication; generate production-quality
figures using Adobe Creative suite, Prism etc.

• Prepare and deliver oral and poster presentations on research results for
conferences

• Assist in the organization and writing of grant proposals and project
reports
Minimum/Basic Qualification Required:
Applicants must have a PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
Desired:
• First-author publication(s) in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology
or related fields

• Experience in one or more of the following areas: cell signaling,
