Glen MacDonald asks about a loose prism in their Nikon Diaphot.
I'm guessing that he has one of the earliest versions of the
Diaphot 200. We have the same scope on our confocal, and had the
same problem (I posted a message a few months ago). Apparently
the cement used for this prism (the beamsplitter that directs
light to the sidearm or to the eyepieces) was not cured correctly
in the first N copies of the Diaphot 200 (N>3).

Our Nikon rep arranged to have our microscope sent back to the
factory for fixing and realignment. No charge; turnaround time
was 1.5 weeks.
