                        Special Seminar Invitation
                      Boston Marriot Long Wharf Hotel
                             September 8, 1995

Fluorescence Microscopy is among the most powerful methods available to
visualize and quantify specific structures and environmental parameters
within biological specimens. Recent advances in imaging and
image-processing technology have added to the types of research which are
only now becoming possible.

You are invited to attend an intensive and interactive one-day seminar to
learn about these exciting recent developments. Starting with the basics
of how a fluorescence microscope forms an image of a specimen, this course
will cover the fundamentals of fluorescent probes, low-light camera
technology, and options for achieving superior resolution and quantitative
accuracy. A special lecture which emphasizes the need for high resolution
will be presented at each workshop.

Who is Scanalytics?
Scanalytics is a division of CSP, Inc., a publicly traded company with over
26 years of experience in high-speed image and signal analysis.
Scanalytics offers a variety of instruments and software for researchers in
the life sciences including electrophoretic gel analysis, DNA sequencing,
DNA fragment analysis and pattern matching, and complete imaging systems
for fluorescence microscopy.

The CELLscan system from Scanalytics is a complete system for rapidly
acquiring, processing, and visualizing images of fluorescently-labeled
microscopic specimens and performing 2D and 3D renderings. Using a
patented processing method known as Exhaustive Photon Reassignment (EPR)**
Developed by Dr. Fredric S. Fay and the Biomedical Imaging Group at the
University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Protected by US
Patent #5047968 and licensed exclusively to Scanalytics. , the CELLscan
system breaks down the barriers between high-resolution and quantitation.
The EPR process, using information about how a microscope forms an image of
a specimen, mathematically reverses all out-of-focus light back to its
proper places of origin, resulting in a very high-resolution image set
which is free of all haze, reveals very fine structures which are not
otherwise visible, and which retains all quantitative integrity of the
specimen set. In addition, the images are ideal for 3D rendering. While
often confused with confocal microscopy, this new technique offers superior
resolution, much more rapid imaging (critical for live cell studies), and
the use of any conventional (non-laser) light source. The EPR technique
will be covered in detail.

To encourage interactive participation, class size is strictly limited to
30 persons.
