Mike Mancini asks what type of utilizations are seen in thoses sites that
feature deconvolution and LSM. At our site, we have a BioRad MRC600 and
an Applied Precision Deltavision SA3. Right now the Deltavision system
(decon) is more heavily used for all types of imaging except for very
thick sections such as some applications in c. elegans. The reason has
mostly to do with sensitivity and flexibility of the decon system. In
particular, people really like being able to use whatever wavelength they
want and not having to be limited by the compromises necessary in laser
excitation.

The confocal is still being used. People who have alot of signal, have
appropriate dyes (e.g. FITC and TR) and who demand instant gratification
use the confocal. More demanding applications use decon.
