You will have a problem if you use too much mountant and don't get rid of
the excess mounting medium from around the coverslip before you nail polish
it.  A simple solution is to flip the slide over onto paper towels for 5-10
minutes after mounting.  The paper will absorb the excess mountant and the
slide will be nice and dry for sealing with nail polish.
I have used Mowiol (polyvinyl alcohol) plus anti-photobleach agents which
hardens, but I find Vectashield far superior.
