We have the same hardware and program combination, and it is very sensitive
to what is happening on the network that the computer is hooked up to. The
best (and perhaps only?) way to avoid unexpected crashes when writing to the
CD-ROM disk is to unplug the computer from the network when producing a CD-ROM.
Also, I suspect there is a bug in the Corel CD creator program. It appears
not to account appropriately for the disk space needed for the recording,
and you get a crash if you try to fill the disk all the way up. You should
leave about 50 megabytes of disk space unused.
I would like to add that it is tricky and quite inconvenient to use the Unix
flavour of Silicon Graphics ("Irix") to read ISO9660 CD-ROMs.
