Dear Confocalists,

The Nikon PCM 2000 uses two laser sources coupled into a single
fiber: A Spectra-Physics air-cooled argon ion laser with an average
lifetime of 20-30,000 hours when run at about 30%-35% of specified output
(about 15mW for a 40 mW head) and a Uniphase green HeNe (1.5 mW @
543.5nm) which is rated at 10,000 hours. This combination seems to be
more reliable and long-lived than the KrAr laser.
Our company manufactures the PCM 2000 for Nikon.

Cheers,
