In fear that I botched the last message that I sent in to the list, I'll try
once again.
There is a good website that has lots of information and links relating to
CD-R (CD-RECORDABLE). That address is:
http://www.cd-info.com/CDIC/Technology/CD-R/FAQ.html
In our lab we have an Olympus 2x6 Recorder running on a Macintosh. We use
Toast software for writing CDs. We make sure that there is enough space on
the Macintosh that users can have as much as 650Mb on the hard disk so that
the "toasting" can be done with the files on the local machine, avoiding any
problem with network transfer speed limitations letting the buffer run
empty. We have used a variety of CD-R media (brands, colors) with complete
success.
I have just taken note (from the site mentioned above) that it is extremely
important not to scratch the UPPER SURFACE of the disc: a label will protect
this. Most cheap media has no labels, but I intend to find some quickly!
Cheers!
