I have started some experiments using a halogenated chlorotrifluoroethylene
oil for mounting living drosophila embryos that express GFP. I have not
noticed any significant problems. I get a good fluorescent signal and most
of the embryos continue to develop. This oil (Halocarbon Oil, Series 95S)
has been used for years during injections (with DNA or some label) of
embryos.
It is available from Halocarbon Products Corp., P.O. Box 661, River Edge,
NJ 07661. Phone: (201) 262-8899.
catalog # 9002-83-9, 1 LB. sells for US$88.20
