Hey Folks,

Come on and tell us how you REALLY feel about Jaz drives!
I have two built in Jaz drives and we've also had chronic problems
with disappearing directories, inability to read files, etc.
Fortunately, we are a pretty new lab and haven't erased the
original files from our hard-drives yet, but since we don't know what
we've really archived (since we don't know what can still be read),
we've violated the first rule of databackup: always have two
copies of everything.

The Jaz has been useful, though, since it is our only backup.
My take on this is for me to get everything onto CDs (or DVDs)
as soon as possible, and just use the Jaz for temporary backup and to
move things between different computers (we're still using
sneaker-net and our confocal has no contact with the outside
world aside form disk drives, which may be a good thing).

Thanks to everyone for all the CD vs DVD vs Jaz comments.

Don
