Michael, 

S.S.Kou's transport-of-intensity approach seems to be 2D. Is it somehow 
possible to map refractive indexes in 3D without interpolation between 2D 
data for different optical slices? 
And one more question: could you please recommend an open-source 
software for optical path difference calculation regardless of the optical 
setup used (DIC, brightfield, phase contrast...)? I cannot get the 
underlying math, the code usually makes it more easy to understand.
