The Bioimaging and Biooptics Platform (PT-BIOP) at the School of Life Sciences of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) is looking for a new staff member to extend the existing team.
The PT-BIOP provides image acquisition and processing on a number of advanced light microscope systems to scientists within and outside the School. Besides maintenance of the instruments the platform is responsible for training users and giving advice on techniques based on light microscopy. The facility is equipped with state of the art microscopes such as widefield fluorescent microscopes, point scanning confocal microscopes and multi-beam scanning microscopes (the entire equipment can be found under: http://biop.epfl.ch/ ).

The person filling this position will train research scientists to use the equipment of the core facility, participate in teaching courses on light microscopy and image processing, give advice to scientists regarding microscopy/microscopic assays, the data analysis strategies using image processing and assist in administrative duties as needed for the day to day running of the platform.

The suitable candidate is expected to have a master (or equivalent) degree, strong practical background in light microscopy and image processing preferably connected to biological questions.
The applicant should be rigorous, reliable, well organized and have the flexibility needed for working in a service-oriented context. Good communication skills in English and ability to operate as a team player in a multi-disciplinary environment are required.

Starting date : 01.10.2011 or to be discussed.
Duration : fixed-term contract (renewable).
Activity rate : 100%
