Thanks to all who helped me.  Ultimately, we were able to cut the tablet
using a cutting wheel.  This provided a sharp, clean cut that made the
microscopy effective in lettingus see the structure of the tablet.  I
realize that this use of the microsscope is not the usual here on this
list, and thus that some of the discussion was off the mainstream topic.
For this I give my regrets.  However, thanks again for all the help.
