Hello listers,

I am running a microscopy facility (mainly confocal) for biological research
and we are currently undergoing a safety inspection throughout the
institute. To date very little laser safety has been taught. At a recent
safety briefing there was some mention of HBO/Mercury bulbs and the
precautions to take with them, but nothing on lasers. So, I'm interested as
to what others do/teach/preach regards safety (for all aspects of
microscopy)?

We have Leica & Zeiss scanning confocals, a Yokogawa spinning disk system
and some widefield stereo and compound scopes. I guess that unless someone
removes one of the objectives the systems are essentially laser safe, but
then people do sometimes need to move them around.

Any help, much appreciated,
Thanks,
Graham
