I to am now faced with the same problem of replacing a Kr/Ar laser after
only 400 hours of usage. Before the laser was installed, I had instituted a
policy regarding the low power setting of the laser. When not imaging for
more than 10 or 15 minutes, the user would put the laser on low power until
they were going to image again. The users seemed to follow this policy
pretty well since the new laser was installed last September. So over the
period of the 400 hours of usage, there were probably a lot of those hours
not even on full power. Why are these lasers failing so soon? Does anyone
have information on the amount of hours quoted from the manufacturer you
should be getting from a refurbished laser?

Also, we are not under service contract with Bio-Rad for the year of 1995.
Does anyone have any experience dealing with ILT directly for getting new
lasers? If anyone who isn't under service contract (or anyone who is for
that matter) could give me some advice about obtaining a new laser, I would
appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help.
